Absolutely terrific. Contrary to what another reviewer said, I actually really like the flute. I could definitely visualize this being in a film.

If I HAD to find a criticism, it would be the mixing right at the top of the crescendo. The rapid lower-end strings seem to overpower the rest of the mix, and it kind of detracts from the dynamic range of the section. But if you were going for that overpowering feeling, then you nailed it.

I think my favorite part is that section between 1:46 and 2:00. Actually, maybe my criticism is influenced from the fact that the choir is no longer front-and-center after the cello(?) comes in. I just really love that choir.

Still, the whole thing is totally deserving of 5 stars. It's really great.

Phonometrologist responds:

Thank you for the detailed review. And yes I agree.

This is a really interesting track. I really love the lower-octave percussive instruments, they remind me of the Balinese instruments used in the Akira soundtrack. (Which is something I've especially been taking inspiration from lately.)

Doesn't overstay or understay its welcome either.

I really like it, and think it deserves five stars. My only real criticism, which is trivial enough to not affect my score, is the sound of the higher octave chimes in the first section of the song. Assuming they weren't recorded live, they sound a little...synthetic? I guess that's the word I'd use. I seriously struggle with the same thing in my own music, which is why a lot of the time I just bite the bullet and commit to the electronic sound.

Good stuff. I especially love the last third of the song.

Hey, thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review!

They weren't recorded live, as much as I'd like them to be haha! Definitely something to work on in the future! Sometimes it is worth going with the sound it's sort of stuck with and re-working things. I tried to get this to be a weird blend of both synthetic and realistic, but sometimes I think it might be best to choose one or the other!

Thank you for such a deep and helpful review! All the best, GlassPalms!
